Nokia develops liquid-cooled base station technology: 30% energy saving, 80% CO2 reduction

Nokia has developed a liquid-cooled base station technology. This technology can save 30% of electricity and reduce CO2 emissions by 80%. As we all know, the base station is an important guarantee for mobile phone communication. However, with the approach of 5G, the demand for data traffic continues to soar, the network load has increased significantly, and the power consumption of base stations and the heat dissipation of equipment have become increasingly serious.

Traditionally, base stations are cooled by fan systems. Nokia, on the other hand, developed liquid cooling technology. Nokia executive Harry Kuosa said: "Traditionally, base stations are cooled by air flow, and Nokia's innovation uses liquid as a coolant."

Kusa also added that liquid can dissipate heat from base stations more efficiently than air. In short, Nokia's liquid cooling system can reduce energy consumption by about 30% and reduce CO2 emissions by 80%.

Nokia had deployed the world ’s first liquid-cooled base station system in an apartment building in Helsinki, Finland, in cooperation with Elisa and Efore in December last year.

The entire Bolt is threaded, and this type of bolt has higher strength and wider range of use than hexagonal and double headed bolts. Hexagonal and double headed bolts are commodity grade bolts, expressed in performance grade. The fully threaded bolt is a specialized grade bolt, which is represented by the material grade. The material substitution for chemical equipment must be confirmed by the design before it can be represented. Once, it was seen on site that a 4.5 grade hexagonal bolt was used to replace a 8.8 grade bolt. This grade 4.5 bolt is not used in chemical engineering.
