Fire smart helmet coming soon

According to reports, Hannes Kaufmann of the Vienna University of Technology is studying the continuous airborne oxygen content on fire helmet displays. This was originally a by-product of a European joint research project aimed at developing safer textile materials for firefighters. The German Fraunhofer Association and Aachen University of Technology also participated in the study.

The report stated that Austrian scientists continued their research after the joint project—focusing on what meaningful information the fire helmet and helmet display should display. Hannes Kaufmann of the Vienna Institute of Technology is the head of the virtual reality research group at the Institute of Software Technology and Interactive Systems. He said, "We used two cameras." An application can display three-dimensional images of the space where firefighters were photographed by three-dimensional cameras. Another thermal imaging camera can use colors on the display to remind the firefighters of the danger behind the wall. Firefighters can also use it to search for trapped minor people. All data can be transmitted to commanders outside the fire in real time.

It is reported that this type of fire helmet is currently technically not mature enough to be put into production. However, Kauffman speculates that it will be greatly welcomed by the market. Kaufman said, "In a smoke-filled room, people can't see things with a three-dimensional camera." At the same time, he admits, "In this case it is necessary to see things that require far-infrared lasers." This technology has yet to be seen. the study.

The report pointed out that technicians are studying how to miniaturize the computer equipment that firefighters are carrying. The goal is to reduce it from the size of a laptop to the size of a smartphone. The actual measurement will show how much fire field information can be processed by the miniaturized equipment.
