Heliyon reported on November 20 that researchers at the Plasma Physics Research Center of the Islamic Assad University (IAU) in Iran have discovered a new method of manufacturing "supercapacitive paper." This new type of supercapacitor can bend and store electrical energy. The energy storage capacity per unit volume of supercapacitors is more than 10 times that of traditional capacitors, but the charging and discharging speed is several times that of the latter, and the service life is longer. The supercapacitor paper made by Dr. Leila Fekri Aval's team is lighter, thinner and cheaper than other capacitor papers. Aval said: "In the near future, the application of super capacitor paper will gradually increase. When its cost is reduced, more and more people will use this material."

Carbon nanotubes have good thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and energy storage properties. Although it has high strength, it also has excellent flexibility. Dr. Aval's team investigated the structure of commercial supercapacitors, and then fabricated a composite-layer capacitor paper based on carbon nanotube paper. In order to separate the composite layers, they used economical barium titanate. This composite layer supercapacitor paper can effectively store energy even if it is folded up.

The new supercapacitor paper has potential application value in the fields of medical implants, wearable technology, and smart packaging-a tablet computer that can be rolled up and put in a clothes pocket, and the mobile phone is charged with clothes. These ideas may gradually become reality.
