Nature: Non-water-adhesive adhesive sheet biomimetic nanotechnology!

Adhesive techniques based on mechanical interlocking or molecular attraction between surfaces are able to withstand liquid environments. To date, researchers have developed a range of dry or wet adhesives, including: multi-stage mushroom-like structures or porous structures, supramolecular structures containing nanoparticles, chemical adsorbents using protein polyelectrolytes, and the like.

The problem is:

1) A simpler manufacturing method;

2) It can be reused in both dry and humid environments;

3) Avoid leaving non-chemical contamination on the surface of the sticker.

In view of this, the Changhyun Pang team at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea reported a biomimetic nanostructure patch that mimics the design of the octopus sucker, which can be used efficiently in dry/wet environments!

By mimicking the structure of the octopus protrusions, Sangyul Baik et al. used a simple, solution-phase-based air trap technique to create a patterned structure and thereby obtain the opposite structural construction.

The micron-sized round bottom gives the patch a stronger suction and is reversible and repeatable in the dry, wet, and paraded environments on silicon, glass, and rough skin surfaces. Large-area wafer transfer experiments have shown that the adhesive sheet does not contaminate the surface.

It is worth mentioning that this technology does not require sophisticated chemical synthesis and surface modification operations, which is very simple.
