Offshore oil industry will increase demand for wire and cable equipment

Recently, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (hereinafter referred to as China National Offshore Oil Corporation) and British Petroleum (BP) have successfully signed a petroleum contract in the 54/11 contract block of the Pearl River Mouth Basin of the South China Sea in Beijing. For more than 30 years, CNOOC has signed 200 foreign oil contracts with 78 international oil companies from 21 countries and regions. CNOOC has achieved a business transformation from "bringing in" to "going out". A new breakthrough in foreign cooperation has promoted China's offshore oil industry from small to large and from weak to strong, and has achieved the development and growth of China's offshore oil industry.

With the development of China's offshore oil industry, the scale of offshore oil and gas fields is gradually expanding, and the scale of power stations is also increasing. The maximum installed capacity of a single offshore oil and gas field power system has exceeded 100 megawatts, or even more; the voltage level is from 400V. It has developed to the current 3.3kV, 6.3kV and 10.5kV, even 35kV; the power supply scope of the main power station has developed from 2, 3 wellhead platforms to 6, 7 or even more wellhead platforms.

Through the application of advanced technology, new knowledge and new power grid management mechanisms for advanced offshore oil and gas field power network integration, the existing power station resources have been integrated and the power system for offshore oil and gas field clusters has been unifyingly planned to achieve resource sharing within the region and share effective use of power generation. The unit improves the reliability and stability of the power system; it reduces the standby capacity of the system, realizes energy conservation and emission reduction, and promotes the economic and efficient development of offshore oil and gas fields. Among them, the submarine cable has played a decisive role as the power link of the offshore power system.

In the offshore oil industry, submarine cables generally use photoelectric composite submarine cables, which are mainly used for power transmission and data communication between platforms or between FPSOs (floating storage and unloading devices, which can initially process and store crude oil) and platforms. Because of the limitation of exploration power, the development of oil and gas fields developed in China is still in shallower waters. Photoelectric composite submarine cables are mainly deployed in waters with depths of up to 300 meters. The main voltage levels are 6.3 kV, 10.5 kV, 22 kV, and 35 kV.

“With the development of offshore oil and gas regions, deepwater development and the vigorous development of offshore wind farms, the current 35kV voltage-grade submarine cable transmission capacity will be stretched. The demand for large-capacity, long-distance submarine cables is gradually increasing.” Wei Che, chief electrical engineer of the General Research Institute of Petroleum Corporation, said that as the deep-water oil and gas field gradually develops the demand for high-voltage DC cables, dynamic cables, and umbilicals, it will greatly increase.
