China developed AIDS saliva test reagents that can self-detect

Beijing, May 5 (Reporter Zhou Tingyu) can detect AIDS without drawing blood. The State Food and Drug Administration recently approved the listing of AIDS saliva test reagents, providing a means for people to self-detect HIV infection.

This reagent was jointly developed by Beijing Wantai Pharmaceuticals, the National Institute for the Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases, and the Vaccine Engineering Technology Research Center. The test results can be observed within 30 minutes by detecting viral antibodies in the oral mucosal exudate. The clinical assessment performed by a number of authoritative clinical units in China showed that the positive and negative coincidence rates and the total compliance rate of the same reagents and imported test reagents were all 100%.

"The detection of HIV infection through saliva does not mean that saliva can spread AIDS because the virus antibody is detected instead of the virus itself." Zhang Jun, deputy director of the National Center for Diagnostic Respiratory Medicine and Vaccine Engineering Technology Research Institute, said that AIDS is caused by The immunodeficiency caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is associated with a fatal infectious disease. A few weeks after infection with HIV, specific antibodies will gradually appear. In addition to blood, HIV may be detected in tears, urine, saliva, semen, and vaginal secretions.

At present, all kinds of existing AIDS diagnostic reagents in China adopt blood samples and require invasive sampling, which is difficult to meet the needs of crowd monitoring. The use of human saliva specimens and urine specimens for rapid detection of HIV antibodies, combined with routine blood specimen testing, has become the development trend of HIV testing in China and around the world.

According to reports, detection of HIV antibodies by saliva can be applied to children, obese people, and atrophic veins who are not suitable for vein blood collection, and it is also convenient for remote areas with limited medical conditions, blood collection difficulties, and large-scale population screening. In addition, it does not cause acupuncture damage to the subjects during the collection, and it is not prone to occupational exposure, which reduces the risk of infection to the subjects and medical staff.

The National Research Center for Diagnostic Reagents and Vaccine Engineering Technology was established in 2005 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and was established by Xiamen University. It is a national engineering research center for diagnostic reagents and vaccine research in infectious diseases in China.
