I realized the universal quantum control of zero magnetic field nuclear magnetic resonance for the first time

The reporter learned from the Key Laboratory of Microscopic Magnetic Resonance of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the laboratory has made important progress in zero magnetic field nuclear magnetic resonance. This achievement is expected to promote the application of zero magnetic field nuclear magnetic resonance in the fields of biology, medicine, chemistry and basic physics.

Professor Peng Xinhua ’s research group of the Key Laboratory of Microscopic Magnetic Resonance of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has cooperated with German and Canadian scientific research institutions to realize the universal quantum control of the zero magnetic field nuclear spin system for the first time, and has developed methods for evaluating quantum control and quantum states. Related research results have been published in the famous international journal "Science Progress".

Zero magnetic field nuclear magnetic resonance is a new field that is rapidly developing and has many outstanding advantages, such as eliminating the dependence of traditional nuclear magnetic resonance on superconducting magnets, high resolution spectroscopy, and rich spin dynamics. However, zero-field magnetic resonance is facing many difficulties: first, under the zero-field, the traditional NMR induction detection method completely fails, and it is very difficult to detect the zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance signal; second, the zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance due to different nuclear spins The Lamo precession frequency is zero, so it cannot be controlled with selective pulses. How to achieve universal quantum control is a problem that needs to be solved urgently.

The research group realized the single-bit gate and multi-bit gate of the nuclear spin by using carefully designed combined pulses. For the first time, universal quantum control of zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance was realized. At the same time, a method for evaluating the fidelity of quantum control was developed. The quality of quantum control was evaluated, and the control fidelity was as high as 99%. Based on the quantum control technology developed by this work, the selective measurement of the interaction between different spins can be achieved, and the selected antisymmetric spin interaction can be used to test the law of the non-conservation of the parity of molecules.
