Interconnection technology with database in AutoCAD environment

Abstract This paper describes the method of data exchange between Visual Foxpro 3.0 and its internal ASI interface technology in the hydraulic CAD system for the secondary development environment of AutoCAD R13 for Windows.

1 Introduction

Data exchange is the core technology of CAD. It can be said that without the effective exchange of data, there is no full advantage of CAD superiority. When implementing CAD software secondary development in AutoCAD environment, how to realize the effective exchange of data between modules, how to solve the interface problems between different softwares and how to realize the connection between graphic entities and non-graphic entity data, is the secondary development of CAD The key issues solved by the system.

This paper focuses on the ASI (AutoCAD SQL Interface) programming method for data exchange between Visual Foxpro 3.0 and AutoCAD R13 C4 for Windows environment, and is applied to the CAD software of hydraulic system.

2 AutoCAD development and database access

Like other popular software, Autodesk provides a mechanism for interfacing with external databases within AutoCAD R13. AutoCAD itself contains several parts of ASI (AutoCAD SQL Interface), ASE (AutoCAD SQL Extension) and DBMS (Database Manager System) drivers. ASI follows the ANSI/ISOSQL standard and is a set of functions for accessing external databases from AutoCAD. The application established by ASI can be connected to the AutoCAD system through the development application system of AutoCAD; the ADS developed by C language, the ARX developed by Visual C++4.0 or the AutoLISP language built in it, and can be different at the same time. The database driver supports the exchange of data for different databases.

ASE is a set of commands that connect SQL to an AtuoCAD system. The essence is the ADS/ARX application built with ASI. Using ASE, you can query and modify the records and fields of data files in the external database in AutoCAD. You can associate data with graphic entities and non-graphic entities (such as dimension parameter substitution and schedule in dummy). A two-way query between graphics and data is implemented, and the display data can be dynamically tracked in the graph.
