At the annual exhibition of the American Chemical Society, Harvard scientists introduced this amazing fire extinguishing method. Inspired by the phenomenon that charge can change the shape of the flame, the researchers invented a "radio gun" that could be the starting point for a new generation of fire protection technology.
At the show, they connected a 600 watt current amplifier to a special tube to create a wave, then align the tube with a flame of 1 foot (about 0.3 meters) across the distance, and the flame was immediately extinguished. The researchers explained that although the fire-fighting process seems simple, it is complicated, and the principles are not fully understood.
But in simple terms, the carbon particles (soot) generated during the combustion of the flame are easily charged, so they are easily affected by the current, which deteriorates the stability of the flame shape. If the current is shaking, the shape of the flame will become more and more unstable until it is extinguished.
According to the researchers, this "radio gun" can be made into a hand-held or back-to-back body. It allows firefighters to drill into the center of the fire to extinguish a fire or open a life channel for the trapped. Once the technology matures, it can also be designed to be installed under the ceiling of thousands of households, such as automatic sprinklers, to quickly eliminate dangers in the event of a fire, and to avoid the entire building becoming a vast ocean due to the large number of water guns.
